Red Sumatra™,
a bewitching hybrid with dark maroon pitchers, is showiest during late spring. One of many Botanique selected S. flava x leucophylla crosses, this one always gets people's attention. Typical mature pitchers are 14–22 inches tall and quite sturdy. Pink to white spots form on the ruffled lid, which has dark veins.
Red Sumatra™ usually goes semi-dormant during the summer, making greener flat leaves (phyllodia) which often have a red blush. Older plants can put up a smaller fall display of pitchers, which tend to be shorter and darker.
Full sun is required for this hybrid to achieve its best color.
